Volunteer mentors sought for local engineering challenge with Teledyne e2v

Mentors sought for Teledyne e2v schools' engineering challenge

Are you able to help for 5 evenings in Nov and Dec 2019?

Teledyne e2v (Te2v) and CSES are launching an engineering challenge that will see local schools working with Te2v apprentices and CSES volunteers to develop prototype solutions to real engineering problems faced by Te2v production staff.

This will be a pilot scheme which, if successful, will be run annually. We are starting with a small number of local schools and need CSES volunteers to help the apprentices to mentor the student teams.

Can you help? Remember that any time spent volunteering counts as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Innovation webinar series (IEEE)

Intellectual assets are our most valuable assets by far but are also the least managed: less than one percent are ever licensed or used commercially. There are many reasons for this poor economic performance, and this course identifies these challenges and solutions for addressing them.

This innovation webinar series, presented by Ideation in collaboration with IEEE UK & Ireland Section, comprises 25 free seminars. It runs fortnightly from Feb 2018 to Jan 2019 and covers best practices in managing intellectual assets. It includes sessions with topics for innovators, practitioners, and advanced IP managers.

CSES is looking for a new Secretary

CSES is looking for a new Secretary

From Roger Pittock, our current Secretary

After much soul-searching, and having now had the honour and pleasure of serving 10 years in post, I am not seeking re-election as CSES Secretary. I am looking forward to continuing to support your Society from the Council, but not from the post of Secretary.

I am truly grateful to members for their support over the last 10 years, and I have learned a tremendous amount while in office. The position and experience opened many opportunities during my career.

Please consider putting yourself forward for this role. The time commitment is not that high overall, but comes in bursts. A brief overview follows.

CSES seeks video editor

CSES seeks video editor

As you may be aware, we offer videos of our talks and some other events to members via the website.

Unfortunately, we have a huge backlog of videos from past events still to be published as we (the Committee) currently don't have sufficient capacity to work through them!

We are looking for a video editor (or team of editors) who would enjoy:

  • Creating standard title and closing graphics (idents).
  • Editing videos as required and preparing them for upload.
  • Bringing creative ideas to the process such as incorporation of speakers' slides where available.
  • Anything else that you can think of, such as filming events in the future.
