Controlling Light – Biology, Electronics and Psychology – BOOKING REQUIRED

Speaker: Scott Window (Senior Electrical Engineer, Thornton Reynolds)

As this event is part of Anglia Ruskin University's Chelmsford Science Festival 2019, please book your FREE ticket(s) via Eventbrite.

Artificial lighting uses a significant amount of the energy produced for buildings but without it many tasks would be impossible. artificial lighting has allowed high-density buildings to be designed and cities in the modern sense to form. As engineers, we look for ways to reduce this energy consumption while also minimising the negative impacts of energy saving on the human (and sometimes animal) experience. The new age of lighting technology also means there are increasing abilities to affect change in more than just the visual system.

Scott Window is an Electrical Building Services Engineer working on construction projects across the UK including Theatres, Offices, Residences, Laboratories and Universities. He designs lighting for environments that often do not have a pre-made or off-the-shelf solution. He presented his MSc research paper to the BRE as part of their workshop on non-visual effects of lighting and continues to have an interest in non-visual lighting.

Refreshments will be available before the talk from 19:00.
