Speaker: Prof Edward A Davis (University of Cambridge)
Many of us will be familiar with the name 'Rayleigh' from our school science lessons; what many local people perhaps do not know is that Nobel Prize-winning Lord Rayleigh carried out much of his scientific research a few miles from Chelmsford at Terling Place, in a laboratory which has survived and is preserved by his family. Professor Davis has spent much time studying the contents of the laboratory (some items are now exhibited in the Science Museum) and will give a fascinating talk on his legacy and the ongoing relevance of many of his discoveries.
Refreshments will be available before the talk from 18:00.
